What goes into a custom build?

Step 1: The Design

It starts with your idea. Once you have a sense of what you’d like to build, we’ll sit down with you to talk through your vision, needs and budget. From there, we develop the building plans, blueprints and 3D design so you can see how everything comes together before construction begins.

Step 2: The Foundation

With the plans finalized, it’s time to start building!

We begin with permits and site preparation, clearing and levelling the building area before work on the foundation begins. From the proper base and drainage to piping, insulation, structural components and concrete, every step is carefully completed and inspected along the way. A solid home starts with a solid foundation, and we make sure it’s done right from the beginning.

Step 3: Framework

Once the foundation is complete, your build begins to take shape. Framing creates the structure, including the walls, floors and roof systems, followed by the installation of windows and exterior doors. The structure is then wrapped and protected from the elements, helping prevent moisture from reaching the framing and creating a strong, weather-protected shell for everything that comes next.

Step 4: The Inner-Workings

Once the structure is framed and dried-in, work can begin on the systems that make it function. With the interior protected from the elements, plumbing and sewer lines, electrical, heating and ventilation systems, and tub and shower units can be installed. Once these essential systems are in place and inspected, insulation is added to prepare for the next stage.

Step 5: Interior & Exterior Finishes

With the essential systems in place, your project starts to look much more finished. Inside, drywall is hung, taped and finished, followed by texture and primer where needed. At the same time, work continues outside with the installation of exterior finishes such as siding, brick, stone or stucco.

Step 6: The Finishing Touches

This is when all the details start to come together. Doors, windowsills and trim are installed, followed by cabinetry, vanities and other custom details. Final paint, countertops and hard-surface flooring bring the interior together, while exterior grading helps complete the project outside.
